Earth Day 40- Nature’s Way 35
Earth Day celebrates its 40th Year in 2010 and Nature’s Way is not far behind.
In 1975 we opened our doors in the spirit of renewal, innovation and with the hope that citizens, especially those of Easton would come to understand their role in the health of their planet Earth and that Nature’s Way could help them do just that.
After all, we all are the environment. What we do every day in our homes, in our work place and those spaces in between, including in our minds influences our health in Easton and on this planet.
Thirty Five Years later we have seen changes. Mass markets are selling “organic”, “trans fat free” products, “whole grains” in variety and in fancy marketable packaging. But we are not there yet. The importance of concepts like “sustainable”, “local”, “raw”, “sprouted”, “fermented”, “non GMO”, “non BGH” and “low heat” are still coming into their own. As science and consumer conviction embrace these facts we will “get it”. We are learning it is all about the health of the soil, the health of the grasses and crops from that soil and the health and happiness of the animals that eat from that richness. We humans can’t be healthy without any of the above. We can learn by looking at indigenous cultures and drawing from the common sense that allowed their health to thrive without an industrial revolution. They did it nature’s way. They invented the art of fermented, local and sustainable foods. When the essentials of a healthy planet are being taught to all our children, the future will be a wholesome one.
There’s also the world of disease and our fresh understanding of it. Simply put, eating with consciousness, staying active and finding joy in Life is the answer to many common and very modern health problems. The practice of using nutrients to address our health challenges is advancing as well. The introduction of low tech, bio-active supplements is exciting. The re-introduction of Traditional medicines and their herbal, from the earth constituents, is a better answer to chronic health problems of today. The nod from science is occasional, albeit slowly from behind. From “modern” lifestyles have come the results of less sunshine and the remarkable Vitamin D deficit of our population, the over indulgence of high carbohydrate meals and the resulting diseases of insulin resistance including childhood diabetes and the advancement of heart disease, a rarity one hundred years ago. Stress of our population is representative of the environmental stress of our planet. Mineral supplementation, including Magnesium and Chromium has risen to the top of the “important” list. Essential fats including the Omega 3’s now play an important role as supplements, but are you consuming a sustainable source of these healthful fats? If not, our oceans will not be able to survive as we know them.
We are making progress, and deserve to take time to embrace each other as partners in this progress.
Thank You, to all our customers and friends who have enabled us and encouraged us for the past 35 years to carry the torch. Thank you for acting locally in Easton, speaking your piece (peace) to friends and family while supporting the health of our Planet.
So let’s celebrate, April 23rd and April 24th.
Peace
